It has been another positive start to the year in the English Faculty! It has been great to see students settling into new classes, arriving in class prepared to learn and taking pride in the quality work they complete each lesson. We would like to take this opportunity to remind both parents/guardians and students about the organisation of classes in our faculty. In all Junior classes (7-10) we have one top class and a number of mixed ability classes. In Senior classes (11-12) students are organised by the course they are completing, with multiple classes of students completing the same course also organised into mixed ability classes. In each of the Junior classes, all students were issued with a note regarding the use of film in the classroom. Whilst most of these notes flooded back straight away, we would appreciate any notes still outstanding to be returned as soon as possible.
There are a number of opportunities available for students in English this year. We have both Junior and Senior teams preparing for the NSW Premier's Debating Challenge with training taking place in the coming weeks. We have had an overwhelming response to our Anime Club and as a result have created Junior and Senior divisions. Students meet on Thursdays at Lunchtime, Week A for Juniors (7-8) and Week B for Seniors (9-12) and are excited to sharing their interests, collaborating with peers and planning events. Our Young Author's Club is also up and running for 2018 with students working towards developing their writing skills, sharing their publications and entering national writing competitions.
We look forward to more positive weeks ahead as classes are engaged in their units of work, begin studying set texts and work to further develop their skills in English.
