Defence Mentor Program
The Defence Mentor at Irrawang High School, is here to support students and families who are part of the Defence community.
We understand that life in a Defence family can bring unique challenges, including postings, relocations, deployments and time spent away from family members. Our role is to help make sure students feel supported, connected and included in their school community.
The Defence Mentor works with students, parents and school staff to:
Provide support and guidance – Be a friendly and familiar person students and families can turn to when they need assistance.
Support student wellbeing – Help students access social, emotional and wellbeing support within the school.
Encourage connection and friendships – Create opportunities for Defence students to meet others, build friendships and feel a sense of belonging.
Support learning and engagement – Help students navigate challenges with their learning, attendance or engagement and connect them with the right support.
Raise awareness – Help school staff understand the experiences and challenges that can come with Defence life.
The Defence Member and Family Helpline is the first point of contact for Defence families seeking support, information or connection with their community. The helpline can provide assessment, assistance, advice and referrals depending on the family's needs.
