Each year around the world, International Women's Day (IWD) is celebrated on March 8. Thousands of events occur not just on this day but throughout March to mark the economic, political and social achievements of women.
Organisations, governments, charities and women's groups around the world choose different themes each year that reflect global and local gender issues.
Year 11 students Melissa Hedges and Brittney Pirotta along with Year 11 advisor Mrs Cormick and Community Engagement Officer Lue Fagan attended a breakfast at Nelson Bay organised by Port Stephens Council with the theme Connecting Girls, Inspiring Futures.
Melissa participated in a question and answer session with several other students and both young women represented the school beautifully.
Meryl Swanson, radio talkback host was thevery interesting key note speaker.
The two students then participated in a IWD
community stall at Marketplace Raymond Terrace following the breakfast.
