Year 7 E (Extension Class) Application Process
Irrawang High School annually provides an opportunity for students entering Year 7 in the following year to apply for a position in the 7E (Enrichment) class.
The Yr 7 Extension Class consists of students with:
A strong work ethic.
High literacy and numeracy skills.
The ability to work independently.
The ability to reflect on their work.
The ability to problem solve.
The ability to work collaboratively and creatively
The 3 step process to selection includes:
STEP 1
Selective Test: that covers areas of core curriculum including; Literacy, Numeracy and General Knowledge. The test is scheduled for 1 ½ hours using a variety of questioning styles and is held at IHS.
*Students who reach the pre-determined bench mark in the test will be invited to move to STEP 2
STEP 2
Interview: This part of the process takes approximately 15 minutes AND is an opportunity for the student to discuss their achievements and skills and showcase pieces of their work. The interviews take place late in Term 3 at the students own school, in a friendly, informal and supportive manner.

STEP 3
Presentation of a portfolio at interview including;
• Stage 3 School Reports (at least 2)
• Work Samples from at least 4 KLA’s
• NAPLAN Results (Yr 5) AND in addition
• Individual Choice – Students are to discuss one work sample in detail with the interview panel – explaining the requirements of the task, the steps used to complete the task and the ablity to reflect on the overall success. (Presentation could include digital media)
• Other material that will give the panel a better understanding of your child – interests, sports, hobbies, goals and career aspirations.
