Creative and Performing Arts (CAPA)

CAPA

Irrawang High School is renowned for its strength in the Creative and Performing Arts. The varied Dance, Drama and Music & Instrumental ensembles and Vocal groups participate in school, community, state and interstate events.  Incorporated into the annual Transition Calendar are CAPA activities in the following areas;

SHOWCASE: The annual Showcase  (a regular event within the Lakeside Community of Schools LMG for over 20 years)   is held over 2 nights during Education Week and includes performances (Dance / Drama / Choirs /Music, Instrumental and Vocal ensembles from all our partner  schools  including;  Grahamstown Public School, Irrawang Public School, Medowie Public School and Wirreanda Public School. Rehearsals are held during the day and the evening performance is from 6.00pm and 9.00 pm in the hall at IHS. Over 400 artists perform to a sell-out audience each night. The finale of each show is a culmination of all performers on stage celebrating the Education Week theme of each year.

CAPA ROADSHOW: The annual CAPA Tour entourage presents the one hour show to our partner schools on a rotation basis, during the latter part of Term 4 each year. [The IHS CAPA Tour is a 10 day activity for selected students from Yrs 8 – Yr 11 touring and performing interstate to varied regional and CBD’s of NSW / Victoria / South Australia and Queensland during the spring break and Week 1 of Term 4] 

WORKSHOPS:  The CAPA Faculty regularly coordinate workshops in Dance / Drum Corps and Vocal activities with our partner schools each year. The workshops are either held at the primary school campus or at IHS.

VISUAL ARTS PROJECTS: Events (coordinated by IHS) are varied and include numerous activities that showcase the visual art skills of IHS and our partner school students; Art4Ag / Art Exhibitions at the Raymond Terrace Library / Art Exhibitions at Marketplace Raymond Terrace / community and individual school based murals, at times working with renowned regional artists .
