Alex left Irrawang High School in 2008 as School Captain, with some solid results in his HSC.He was awarded a five year Industry Scholarship to study mechanical engineering at Newcastle University. His industry scholarship allowed him to study and work at the same time with the local branch of a national engineering company, RCR Energy. In addition to getting practical experience working while getting his degree, Alex found academic and personal successes by being placed on the Dean's Merit List for three years running, winning the Daniel Clark and Morison prizes and being awarded the Insignis Medal, recognising the university industry graduate considered the highest achiever amongst equals. Outside his academic life, Alex helped to found the University of Newcastle Motorcycle Club, promoting social events between fellow motorcycle riders at the university and in 2012 he completed a half-marathon.
Alex provided the following testimonial to the school:
"The staff, fellow students and the positive learning environment at Irrawang High School has helped prepare me for success in my future studies and in setting up a great career. Irrawang offers every opportunity to students to pursue any career avenue they choose"
Congratulations on your wonderful achievements to date Alex and we wish you every success in your new career as a mechanical engineer.
