Manager at Coles Medowie Mr Dan Buckton provided a delicious Christmas luncheon and gifts of chocolates for our Senior Support students who work there as part of their Work Experience program every Tuesday morning. He praised the students and thanked them for their efforts throughout the year, adding that their assistance and hard work is certainly appreciated.
Whilst at Coles the students stack shelves, become involved with store presentation, assist the customers and recycle cardboard cartons. They have also been trained in safe handling of foods and evacuation procedures. Students purchase their lunch at the store and eat with staff members practising their budgeting, social skills, as well as healthy food choices.
As part of the program, the students travel by themselves there and back on the bus with teachers meeting them at both ends.
Crystal, on behalf of the other students presented Mr Buckton with a Certificate of Appreciation.
Staff members Ms Sandra Kelly and Ms Kylie Crossley accompany the students every week. "The students really get a lot out of this experience, they learn teamwork, how to behave in public, relate to people they haven't met before and work expectations" said teacher Sandra Kelly.
