Miss Kaylie Newell - Our world class rally driver

kn

On Monday November 14, Ms Kaylie Newell one of our popular casual teachers (and former student),  is heading up to Coffs Harbour to compete in the Australian round of the 2016 World Rally Championship representing Australia in their WRC3 (World Rally Championship 3), ARC (Australian Rally Championship) and NSWRC (New South Wales Rally Championship) 2wd class.
Kaylie is an international co-driver and has been co-driving alongside many drivers for 5 years. She has recently paired with 2 time TARGA winner and one of Australia's greatest rally drivers Tony Sullens, whom she will be competing with for the three day Australian round of The World Championships in his Citroën DS3 R3T.
Established in 1973, the WRC is widely regarded as the most challenging motorsport championship in the world. In 2016, the roads on this epic motorsport adventure are spread across more than 15 countries, with 14 rallies. Each rally features a number (typically between 15 and 25) of timed sections - known as stages that run on closed roads in forests, snow, cliff sides, dirt, country sides and on tarmac.
Drivers and co-drivers battle one at a time to complete these stages as quickly as possible, with timing down to 1/10th second.
Weeks of preparation goes into each race with Kaylie and Tony meeting regularly to complete detailed pace notes a (bit like hieroglyphics) that explain what is coming up ahead whilst they drive incredible speeds on variable surfaces.
We all wish you the very best Kaylie – stay safe!
