Engineering students from the University of Newcastle came to school today to take part in an enrichment program for the girls in 7E & &7M with the annual Robogals. Students were helped with many skills: how to program the computers, team work, maths & science in practical applications, trial and error and patience.
Whilst the girls were making robots, the boys were challenged with developing a truss bridge design based on "Best Available Practice", examining and adapting research of scientists and engineers in that field.
The boys formed groups to build a bridge from plastic straws and sticky tape. The aim was build the strongest and lightest bridge as measured by weights, by teacher Mr Larkman.
Congratulations to the winners – the Cheesburger Piglets!
