Clontarf Overnight Excursion

Clontarf students at the beach

Report from Clontarf Director John Wade

On Wednesday the 27.03.2019 a group of 9 Clontarf Academy members from Irrawang High School departed fpr the Central Coast to join boys from the Hunter River and Newcastle High Academies. We stopped off for a guided tour of the Norah Head Lighthouse before playing some beach footy and having lunch and a swim nearby. After lunch we went and set up camp in the North Entrance Surf Club. The boys unrolled their swags for the first time and then had some more fun outside enjoying the facility that was donated to us for the night. We went out to the Entrance PCYC for a cyberbullying talk with the local Police and watched the local kids using the famous skatepark next to the PCYC. Following this we went back to the Surf Club for homemade burgers and dinner together.

The next morning we all got up early, packed up and had breakfast on the beach, fresh breakfast rolls from the local bakery. The boys were keen to get to the Raw Challenge at Doyalson and get muddy. Upon arrival at the Raw Challenge we had a group safety briefing and got stuck into the course. The boys bonded really well as worked as a team to get everyone through each of the challenges during the 2 hour course. Lots of fun was had, personal challenges were achieved and plenty of mud and laughter was thrown around. A BBQ lunch followed and clean showers before hitting the road back to School.

When we got back the boys all pitched in to clean the bus and pack the gear back into the Academy room. John and Luke would like to thank all the boys for coming along and representing themselves, the school and Clontarf really well. I am sure the boys that attended will spread the word about the fun we had and we hope more of our Academy members put their hands up for other upcoming events by getting themselves to school and having positive attitudes towards school life.
