Construction Pathways Program- Group A

At Irrawang, we strive to provide exciting and engaging educational opportunities for our students. The last three days have been another example of this, thanks to the fantastic work of Mr Wilkins (IHS Construction Teacher), Mrs Newell (IHS Senior Student Co-ordinator), Terina, Beau and Troy from Signature Learning, Phil from Intercept Group and the Regional Industry Education Partnerships officer, Gary Sewell.

Day 1: 13 Senior students in our Group A session sat their White Card course. The White Card course is a nationally recognised training course that supports students leaving school to enter the Construction Industry. All students were successful and received their White Card. Congratulations! IHS would like to thank Phil from Intercept Group.

Day 2: Our participating senior students moved from the classroom to the tools as they worked alongside Signature Learning. Their first task was to familiarise themselves with using hand and power tools before building bird boxes and operating the compactors and power saws. Our students had fun and got dirty. They gained confidence, demonstrated teamwork skills, and experienced individual success as they hand-built birdboxes.

Day 3: The projects became bigger and better! Group A were challenged to complete more technical projects of designing and making tables and stools. By the end of the day, they were awarded certificates of completion and were making their way home with some very well-designed furniture.

Construction Pathways Program- Group B

Work is underway at IHS as our second group of students work with Mrs Newell (Senior Student Coordinator , The Regional Industry Educational Partnerships Team, Signature Learning RTO, and Intercept Training to complete the Construction Pathways Program and be awarded their White Card. The numbers keep growing as student interest in this program grows. All 16 of these Year 11 students passed their White Card course and are currently being upskilled in hand and power tools operation.
